1.5 Introduction to Internet Summary
The word “Internet “ literally means, “Network of networks”. Internet is super-network of millions of interconnected computers and millions of users.
- ARPANET was started by US Government in 1969, which connected researchers with a remote computer centers, allowing them to share hardware and software
- TCP/IP is the internet protocol, specifies an addressing scheme for computers. TCP/IP sets the rule for how data should move between computes and programs on the network.
- Modem stands for modulator and demodulator, which convert the digital data into analog signal and vice versa.
ISDN is mainly used in applications like videoconferencing and high speed file transfer.
