International Women’s Day – March 8
International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year to mark women’s achievements and to appreciate their contribution to the world. Although the earliest observance of the day go back to 1908, it was widely observed after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to recognize March 8 as the ‘Day for women’s rights and world peace.’
The official UN theme for International Women’s day 2014 is ‘equality for women is progress for all.’

The doodle features several instances of the Venus symbol, used to denote the female gender, in colours used in the Google logo along with the company’s actual logo. The second ‘O’ of the Google logo has also been replaced by a larger Venus symbol that also features a Play button. Clicking on the play button starts an embedded YouTube video that includes women from all over the world wishing ‘Happy International’s Women’s day’ in their native languages.
