This year’s (2016) Earth Day is being celebrated with an interactive Google doodle.

Earth Day is held every year on April 22 to highlight green issues.

Events are held around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

The first ever Earth Day was held in 1970, although the name and concept was pioneered a year earlier by activist John McConnell.

Planting trees is the most common way people support the day. Earthday celebrated in more than 192 countries each year around the world.

Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues.
