TNPSC Combined Engineering Services Exam Eligibility Details, Exam Pattern, Syllabus, Salary, Selection Process and Study Materials
Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) conducts Combined Engineering Services Examination (CESE) for recruitment of Assistant Engineer and Assistant Director in various Tamil Nadu State Services. Engineering Degree in relevant discipline is the minimum educational qualification to apply for this examination. Note: “Others” [i.e Candidates not belonging to SCs, SC (A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs] who have put in five years of service in the State/Central Government are not eligible even if they are within the age limit.
Educational Qualification: Candidates should possess the following or its equivalent qualification awarded by an University or Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission for the purpose of its grant or Board recognized by the Government of India or by any State Government:

Note:
i. The qualification prescribed for these posts should have been obtained by passing the required qualification in the order of studies i.e. 10th + HSC/Diploma + U.G. degree.
ii. Candidates having a pass in Sections A & B of the Institution Examinations under Civil Engineering, applying for the post of Assistant Engineer (Civil) PWD may be required to produce the evidence for having undergone Practical Training in surveying for a period of not less than one year or certificate for having put in service for a period of not less than one year in PWD as Overseer or Junior Engineer or to produce the evidence for having Upper Subordinate or LCE Diploma of the College of Engineering, Guindy or LCE Diploma awarded by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Chennai when called for by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
iii. Knowledge of Tamil:- Candidates should possess knowledge of Tamil on the date of this notification.
iv. Persons claiming equivalence of qualification should upload evidence when called for by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
TNPSC Engineering Services Exam Pattern:
Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s Combined Engineering Services Exam Pattern and scheme of examination are given below…
Scheme of Examination: Written examination will be conducted in objective type, consists of two papers. Paper I will have the subjects in the relevant discipline of engineering, time duration will be 3 hours and paper II will have questions on General Studies, time duration will be 2 hours.

i. The questions in Paper-I will be set in English only and the questions in Paper-II will be set both in Tamil and English based on the existing syllabi.
ii. For answering Paper – I, the candidates should specify the subject in which they wish to be examined. They should choose only the subject in which they have obtained the prescribed qualification.
iii. The candidates who possess a degree in Production Engineering and Industrial Engineering should choose Mechanical and Production Engineering, the candidates who possess a degree in Textile Technology should choose Textile Engineering as an optional subject.
iv. The subject paper Civil Engineering will consist of question in Civil and Structural Engineering.

Selection Procedure:
TNPSC Combined Engineering Services selection procedure details are given below…..
Selection will be made in two successive stages i.e.,
(i) Written Examination in OMR Format and
(ii) Oral Test
Written Examination: The written examination will be conducted in objective type for 500 Marks. Paper I will consists of 200 questions for 300 Marks in the time duration of 3 hours and Paper II will consists of 100 questions for 200 Marks in the duration of 2 hours. The questions in Paper-I will be set in English only and the questions in Paper-II will be set both in Tamil and English based on the existing syllabi. The selection will be made on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination only, subject to the rule of reservation of appointments.
Oral Test: The candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for Oral Test. The Oral Test will be conducted for 70 Marks.
Note: The Minimum Qualifying marks for selection for SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/ DCs, BCs and BCMs is 171 and 228 for others.
The final selection will be made on the basis of the total marks obtained by the candidates at the Main Written Examination or Written Examination, as the case may be, and Oral Test taken together subject to the rule of reservation of appointments wherever it applies.
