Anti-Terrorism day

All over India, May 21st is observed as Anti Terrorism Day in the  memory of former Indian Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Gandhi who passed away on this day. On this day in the year 1991, former India’s Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed brutally by terrorist attacks.

Every Year Union Home Ministry administers the Anti-Terror pledge to Government employees. The objective behind the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to wean away the people from terrorism and violence. On the occasion, debates, discussions, symposia, seminars, lectures, etc. are held in schools, colleges and universities on the dangers of terrorism and violence.

The Anti-terrorism day is celebrated across our country to make the people aware of the anti-social act of terrorism and its impact on human suffering and psyche. The whole world including India is facing terrorism on a wide scale,of late. The symbols of democracy and secularism are targeted.

The Day is observed to generate awareness in the country among all sections of people, about the danger of terrorism and violence and its effect on the people, society and the country as a whole.

  • On this day Anti-terrorism or anti-violence pledge will be taken in all the government offices, public sector undertakings and other public institutions on this day.
  • This day is also aimed in  bringing awareness in the country among all sections of people, regarding dangers of terrorism, violence and its effect on people, society and nation as a whole.
  • On this day debates,discussions, symposias, seminars lectures were held in schools,colleges and in universities on dangers of terrorism.
  • Many NGO’s, social and cultural organisations also organise their own programmes to show negative effects of violence and terrorism .
