Global Family Day – January 1
Global Family Day is celebrated every January 1 as a global day of peace and sharing. It is a day where individuals and families share food with friends (especially the needy), make personal pledges of nonviolence, and spread a message of peace and sharing by ringing bells or beating a drum in hopes of making society and the world a safer place to live. Global Family Day grew out of the United Nations Millennium celebration, “One Day In Peace.”
Global Family Day is an annual observance which aims at promoting the idea that the Earth is one Global family and we should live in peace. We should love and care everyone as our own family member.
Originally supported in the United States by Linda Grover, the original idea itself is difficult to pin down because many grassroots efforts around the world had independently sprung up to target this date as a day for peace and had worked separately to prevail on local governments and the U.N. to establish such a day.
For all of us, family is the most important thing in our life. Without family, we are nothing. Family is everything to us. If anyone asks you to tell two most important persons in the world, it would be your parents or siblings (Definitely from your family). In simple words, whatever it is, Family comes FIRST.
On this day people share meals especially with the needy, pledge non violence, and celebrate by ringing a bell or beating a drum on the first day of each year.
People also donate to various humanitarian relief organizations. Various organizations distributes literature in the form of leaflets, brochures, posters etc to unite, inform, motivate, and connect people, institutions, and governments of the world and through the celebration of this day they spread the message of peace and sharing every January 1 and related year round programs.
It encourages them in participating and celebrating the first day of each year as a unique time in promoting the peace and sharing. Irrespective of language, religion, country, race, political affiliation, Global Family Day encourages all the people to share the love with each other and spend this time in peace.
Celebrating the Global Family Day is quite simple. The primary thing to be done on this Day is by gathering in families to share love and peace. Spend some time with your family and talk about the things. Encourage people around you to spend and share time their family members for a day. You can share your love with others by giving gifts and sharing meals.
